4 DOs to Lengthen Life

4 DOs to Lengthen Life

Aging is not a problem if you keep yourself healthy. But of course you wouldn’t believe that if you’ve been trying to stay fit and still find yourself having a hard time seeing some progress.

Since aging is a natural process, the only way to somehow slow it down is through the natural way as well. There are no shortcuts so you have to stop looking for one.

Even if the media constantly feeds you with information about how to stop aging and the like, you have to understand that the best, if not the only, way to ensure that you stay healthy as the years go by is to do it the natural way.

Forget about midnight solutions to aging. They do not exist.

Instead, let’s focus on 5 things you can do reduce accelerated aging while keeping your body healthy.

  1. Color your meal with fruits and vegetables.

Have you ever wondered about the story behind the colors of fruits and vegetables? They don’t appear colorful by mere chance or coincidence. Their variety represents the different nutrients and antioxidants they carry. For instance, blueberries’ dark blue color is attributed to the antioxidant anthocyanins that it carries.

Research says that people who consume more fruits and vegetables generally have lower rates of chronic diseases. They also maintain healthy weight for their age and live longer.

Color your meal with different fruits and vegetables and see how it makes a difference to your lifestyle. With its variety, you’ll never get bored!

  1. Use dental floss every day.

Aside from its benefits on your teeth and gums, flossing can contribute to a healthier lifestyle as it prevents bacteria from your mouth from getting in your bloodstream.

Flossing removes the buildup of bacteria in your gums and prevents it from spreading. This may sound not so special but remember that once bacteria get in your bloodstream, the possibility of inflammation will increase.

This in turn will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease which is currently the no.1 killer in the United States.

  1. Enjoy a cup of green tea.

Green tea contains an antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3-gallate which helps your body shed off age-accelerating compounds. This, combined with caffeine will help you lose as high as 3 pounds in 12 weeks and at least an inch of your waist (source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2010).

  1. Increase your physical activities.

One of the basic requirements to stay and feel healthy is through exercise. But as you age, doing the routines you’ve been accustomed to do at a younger age might be difficult.

Change in stamina comes along with aging but this doesn’t have to hamper you from performing at your fullest. You will feel more tired and unhealthy once you start to be inactive after believing that exercise will no longer do you any good.

Instead of succumbing to this negativity, increase your physical activities at home or at work to keep your muscles from moving. Remember, muscles are great energy burner so keeping an avenue where you can best put it to work will boost your metabolism.

Whatever you do to keep yourself healthy – exercise, diet, regular check-up, and even meditation – will make you feel good. And feeling good is great if you want to slow down aging.

Evaluate your current lifestyle and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Am I doing enough physical activities?
  • Am I eating/drinking the right foods?
  • Am I even doing to slow down my aging process?

Your answers will surely speak of where you are in taking good care of yourself now, and if you haven’t tried doing anything yet, the things I’ve listed above will be a good start.
